I’ve been learning mostly about the disadvantages and advantages a woman faces in the workplace and how to navigate those situations, how to use the skills that I have, and how I can adapt what I’m doing on the programme and bring it into real life scenarios in the future. My favourite part of the program was definitely the people that I’ve met and the different cultural backgrounds, especially in the future female leaders program there are so many people that have different experiences and have come from different places that have different levels of rights and representation – it’s been really incredible.

The Female Future Leaders programme was an incredible experience. It really broadened my horizons, especially if you have issues with public speaking and confidence – it’s really helped with that.

What is English Literature?
English Literature refers to written works made using the English Language. These written works are creative products of the imagination. Expressed in various forms, including poetry, novels, and drama. When studying English Literature, you critically analyse, debate, and interpret the texts.

Why is it important to study English Literature?
Because it sharpens your analysis, creativity and self-expression.

The subject sharpens your analysis because it teaches you to go beyond yourself. And enter into the world of the specific literature you’re studying. What’s the context? How did the people of that time and place behave? What political climate may have influenced their culture? What influences made the author write the way they did?

Studying English Literature enhances your creativity by exposing you to brilliant minds. As you read more literature in different styles, you get a sense of what style you resonate with. You begin to have a list of inspirations to light up your thinking. And you can go back to them whenever you feel dark and empty.

As you study English Literature, you learn new words and expressions. Thus, expanding your vocabulary so you can express yourself with ease. This is good because you’ll often engage in discussion, debate, and public speaking as an English Literature student. As a result, your confidence will soar to the rooftops when you’re done!

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics states that graduates holding an English degree enjoy a median wage of $51,000. 64% work in these 5 occupational groups: educational instruction and library; management; arts, design, entertainment, sports, and media; office and administrative support; and business and financial operations.

In the UK, 43.3% of English graduates worked full-time 15 months after graduation. Most of them (17.1%) worked as education professionals. Other typical career options include marketing; public relations; authors, writers, and translators; human resources and industrial relations; and newspaper and periodical journalists.

Immerse Education offers both online and residential courses for English Literature. The residential course is located at UK Cambridge.

You won’t need prior skills, experience, or learning to take the English Literature courses. But having an active interest in the subject will bring you far. Your English Literature tutor will provide work before the summer course starts – this ensures that you arrive with all the knowledge you need.

What Is Literary Criticism?
Literary Criticism studies and interprets literary works. In this module, you’ll learn about the purpose of literature and the role of literary criticism. Then, take a trip back in time and explore how individuals and societies have interpreted literature. All the way from Aristotle to the present day. End this module with a flourish by having your own manifesto of literary criticism.

Great Poets
Two poets, in particular, will catch our attention in this module: John Milton and T. S. Eliot. Analyse how these two great minds used poetry to engage with Biblical stories and themes. You’ll zero in on how Milton and Eliot’s poetry enabled provocative philosophical debates on heroism, government, and hope.

Influencing Meaning
Do you know that literary structures influence the texts’ meaning? Even the physical formats of books and prints! In this session, you’ll study three different textual forms: a sonnet; an excerpt from a young children’s book from the 1780s; and a selection of texts from William Blake’s Songs of Innocence.

Articulating Ideas
Here you’ll present your final projects, followed by a discussion about the presentation. Don’t be afraid to ask for individual feedback on your work. Then dive deep into the analysis of famous historical speeches. And be inspired to ask questions about formal essayistic structures.

The students best suited for the residential English Literature course are motivated 16-18 year old individuals. Are you aiming to take an English degree at the university? This course will give you a massive leap ahead of the competition.

Do you want to experience world-class teaching from tutors at the University of Cambridge? You’re much welcome!
