Studying with Immerse was an experience that I will never forget. It massively influenced my university application in terms of where I applied to do at the chosen subject. I really value the friendships that I made and the realisation that studying in such an environment isn’t as daunting as it seems, but actually very encouraging. My mentors were both such an inspiration to me and I have kept in contact with my closest friends from the course as well as my tutor. Next year I will start at university and also embark on my second charity trip to Africa. I would strongly encouraged others to sign up to Immerse – I now know what I want to study at university and have taken the necessary steps to do so, with the help of everything I learn from the programme.

So what is philosophy?
In essence, it’s the study of human existence using logic and reason. By understanding philosophy, you’re better able to describe the world you live in and your place in it.

Origins: The Presocratics
Who are the “Presocratics”? Ancient Greek Philosophers before Socrates came into the scene. Why is it essential to examine Presocratics? Because they are the foundation of Western philosophy. Relating to god-like entities was the norm during Ancient Greece. But the Presocratics looked to the four elements instead to make sense of the nature of existence. Namely, water, fire, earth, and air.

Beyond Truth And Morality: Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche was a prominent German Philosopher famous for his writings on religion’s death in modern society and on good and evil. For him, humanity is guilty. We are all driven by our ‘Will to Power.’ A strong desire to dominate, even to the point of enslaving others.

Did you know that the 20th-century Nazi propaganda distorted Nietzsche’s views to fuel their tyranny? Explore Nietzsche’s philosophy that continues to influence the present age in this session.

The Unconscious: Freud
Who is Sigmund Freud? He’s known as the Father of Psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is a clinical method to help treat mental disorders by probing the conscious and unconscious thought elements.

Freud believes that it’s the unconscious part of ourselves that fuels much of our actions and thoughts. Maximise this module by analysing how Freud uses dream analysis and verbal slips to access the unconscious mind.

Then, go further by learning about Freud’s theory about the mind’s tripartite structure – the ego, superego, and id.

Personal Project
“Personal Project” is one of the most engaging parts of the course. Grab the opportunity to present an area of interest in the philosophy programme. Engross yourself in intellectual discussions with your like-minded peers. And receive insightful feedback from your expert tutor.

Motivated students ages 16-18 with an active interest in Philosophy are best suited for the residential Philosophy course at UK Cambridge. Are you aiming to take Philosophy at the university? Taking this course will give you a massive kickstart ahead of your competition.
