Cambridge Goes to Oxford
It may be the first day of the weekend but there is no rest for our youthful participants as we head over to Oxford for the day. Despite the rivalry rumours and the reinforced Cambridge supremacy mentality our mentors have been drilling into the students all week, we all enjoyed a sunny day in Oxford, which allowed the students to explore and decide their preference for themselves.
After breakfast we headed to the coach where we embarked upon our journey. Some coaches were graced with the singing voices of the mentees, whereas others utilized the two hours of extra sleeping time. Upon arrival everyone had time to get lunch in the city, before we started our walking tour of the University. The tour, starting at Christchurch College, was comprehensive and informative, and allowed the students to admire the architecture of the city and various colleges.
The participants were then given free time in Oxford. Some used the time to see more of the city and colleges, while others made the most of the snack facilities around the city, in particular Ben’s Cookies and G&Ds ice-cream sandwiches.
The day finished with a formal three-course dinner at Somerville College. Somerville was one of the first women’s colleges in Oxford, but opened its doors to men in 1994. We then headed back to Cambridge to rejuvenate before we head off to London the following morning.
