Our arrivals are now all settled in and have been enjoying student life, here at Catz. Monday, the first full day of the Medicine and Global Leadership programmes, was jam-packed, with students attending workshops on Oxbridge application and choosing a college.

On Monday afternoon, students participated in a walking tour of Cambridge, learning about college and city history. Students saw the exact spot where the discovery of DNA was first announced to the world, the Cavendish laboratory and Cambridge’s Round Church. This was all finished off with a spot of ice cream! Divine!

It’s Quiz Time!

Monday evening saw the first competition of the week, the Immerse Quiz. Topics covered ranged from Cambridge trivia, to sports, to guess the mentor baby picture. Immerse students had great fun guessing the mentor by their baby photo and came up with brilliant captions for the photos. The quiz was no easy feat – as demonstrated by the looks of confusion on Dip and Fiona’s faces!

On Tuesday, students took part in their second day of lessons. Global Leadership students were given an introduction to democracy by Dr. Harald Wydra, whilst our medics were immersed in the anatomy of the heart, in a talk given by Dr. Charis.

At lunch, our mentors led a tour of St. Johns College. Students were awestruck by the college’s grandeur and beautiful gardens, and felt inspired by the colourful scenery. Smiles all round!

On Tuesday afternoon, students had the option to participate in either yoga, or workshops on applying to Oxbridge for Economics and Politics. Both workshops went down a treat, with students in the Politics workshop debating whether the law has a right to intervene in religious affairs.

Tuesday evening saw students heading to Jamie’s Italian for the swaps dinner. This was thoroughly enjoyed by all, with our own mentor Fiona receiving a candle in her lemon sorbet, to mark her 20^th birthday. All the students sang Happy Birthday to her and it is safe to say that Fiona was one happy girl! (Or woman, now that she’s technically in her third decade of existence).

Today, students will be participating in lessons as usual. Global Leadership will be led by Ruth Lawlor; Medicine by Keith Siew. This afternoon, students will experience the River Cam in all its glory, as they head off to punt along the river. This will be followed by an extravagant dinner in Jesus College formal hall, which is sure to provide for an unforgettable Cambridge experience.
