Graduation and Party Time – The Bop!
After the excitement and awe of the amazing talent displayed at last night’s talent night and karaoke, it was difficult to see how the final day would be able to top it!
The day began as usual by stocking up on some cereal, pain au chocolates and fresh fruit to prepare the participants for their last round of tutorials.
While the participants were hard at work in tutorials, our mentors were hard at work in the shops getting everything ready for the big final night party!
It’s Almost Party Time!
Party preparations were put on hold in the afternoon as mentors took on the role of tough Cambridge interviewers in a mock interview workshops. The mock interviews are designed by the mentors themselves, who have successfully been through the Cambridge interview process, and are aimed at giving participants a taste of what they are likely to experience in the famously challenging Oxbridge interviews. As well as getting some feedback on their interview performances, some mentors also give advice on personal statements for the UCAS application system. Overall mentors were impressed by the way in which participants took on the interview challenge and carefully thought through their answers.
After having their brains picked by interviews, there was just enough time for the participants to quickly change before the fun began. The boys arrived suited and booted and the girls glammed up for formal dinner the impressive Christ’s College formal hall. Presided over by the portrait of Charles Darwin, participants dined on a three course meal including the tasty traditional English roast and Yorkshire pudding. Mentors were brought close to tears and left speechless by surprise gifts from participants and Yuna’s extremely nice speech – thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity!
A Last Night of Party Fun
At the graduation ceremony following dinner, participants had a laugh as Sean recounted the adventures of the last few weeks. The laughs continued as each participant came forward to receive their certificate to the backdrop of some amusing headshots taken in the last week. In true 2014 style, Alex started a trend by taking mentor group ‘selfies’ that could rival those taken at this year’s Oscars awards.
For their last Cambridge experience, participants were treated to a ‘Bop’ prepared by the mentors. ‘Bops’ are themed college discos held a few times a year, where students come in fancy dress to relax and have some fun! In honour of the international mix of participants, the bop theme was ‘countries of the world’, complete with themed mocktails and even a piñata! After a few technical issues with sound, the music and dancing soon got underway as participants were exposed to the latest chart hits, legendary songs and of course some cheesy 90s pop that no bop would be complete without!
Participants made the most of their one and only extended curfew by bopping away until midnight!
Needless to say a superb evening and 2 weeks was had by all! We hope all participants have left us having gained lots of knowledge and wonderful memories of their time at Immerse Education and who knows, perhaps they’ll even be back in Cambridge to make some more magical memories in a few years time.
