Hello From the Other Side

At 10am our participants embarked upon their first excursion of the weekend – a day trip to the historic and rival University City of Oxford.

We began with sampling many of Oxford’s independent eateries to provide us with fuel for the afternoon ahead. Next we had a private two hour walking tour in mentor groups. These are conducted by locals or University students who know the City extremely well, are always excited to share the City with us and answer all of our questions. We saw many Oxford Colleges such as Balliol, Hertford and most famously Christchurch, and explored some of the City’s landmarks for example the Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian library and the Sheldonian theatre.

How Do Oxford and Cambridge Compare?

After the tours, the participants were given free time to explore Oxford further in smaller groups. They could go shopping, to one of the popular museums such as the Ashmolean, or just wander round the City and take in the atmosphere. Visiting Oxford gives the participants a very useful point of comparison with Cambridge allowing them to make an informed decision of where to apply – Oxford or Cambridge – and which University would suit them best.

Later that evening, and after a long day, the participants could relax whilst dining at Somerville College. We were given a delicious three-course meal consisting of chicken terrine, roasted duck and a chocolate torte with coffee ice-cream. It was a perfect way to end our first day trip.

We arrived back in Cambridge at 11:00pm and the participants went straight to bed to ensure they were ready for another excursion to London on Sunday.
