Mid-Week Mornings and Midsummer Nights

Breakfast passed off without incident – though at this stage of the programme Mentors and Mentees are beginning to become a bit too reliant on coffee to get through the morning. In any case, tutors are really trying to challenge students intellectually now, with much of the basic and new material already divulged earlier in the week.

Talent show rehearsals are also underway. Troops have formed, dances have been choreographed and Rubik’s cubes have been bought. With only one day until the performance, the excitement is palpable. Whilst group of students went to visit the famous and beautiful King’s College Chapel, and medicine students were given a full replication of a classic interview, it was clear what was on everyone’s mind. Everywhere you go are newly formed friendship groups meticulously practicing steps, and acts are starting to come together.

Getting Ready to Party

Decorations and deliveries have also begun to arrive for the final night party, modelled on the classic aspects of a Cambridge may ball. Invitations have been sent out to all participants announcing the theme of ‘The Great British Summer’ in an ironic nod to the changeable weather there has been in the last couple of weeks. This will be their last opportunity to dress up, take photos, and celebrate together one last time before they part ways.

This evening, the exhausted students relaxed either in front of Shakespeare’s ‘A midsummer night’s dream’ or a scary movie. Their last two days are set to be jam-packed with final class projects, a talent show and graduation ceremony all rolled one after another – so they can only hope they sleep well tonight!
