Exceptional introductory course in Law at Oxford colleges
Participants in the Immerse Law summer course in Oxford for 13-15-year-olds are introduced to a discipline that is not commonly encountered before university.
Explore a range of legal topics such as Tort Law, Criminal Law, and the constitutional framework, all of which are typically included in the first year of an undergraduate degree.
Not only will you extend your knowledge of the law in our program, but also develop the fundamental skills required for success in this profession, and many others. You will critically evaluate evidence, develop well-structured and nuanced arguments, and present your ideas to your peers with calm, measured confidence.

Our workshops are geared towards unlocking participants’ potential, giving them the tools to prepare for the next steps of their education and future goals. Build upon existing study skills to support future university-level learning.
These workshops explore a diverse and enriching range of topics – past examples have ranged from ‘Productivity tips’ to ’21st Century Technology Skills’. We’re sure that you’ll learn something completely new. Unlike traditional schools, Immerse allows you to learn beyond the traditional curriculum.

The class was encouraged not to jump impulsively to conclusions, but to think logically, applying all the skills and knowledge we had learned in the previous days. I truly believe that throughout the two weeks, through court visits, mock trial, explanations of the law and debates in class, the course instilled a sense of passion for law in me, which I truly didn’t expect to happen.

Action-packed social programme
Outside of lessons, we are proud to offer a busy and diverse social programme to help you get the most out of your time in Oxford. This includes activities such as punting on the River Cam, zorb football and a murder mystery night in the college.
There are also two excursions during the programme, one day trip to visit Oxford and its constituent colleges, as well as an optional day out in London, seeing the city’s most famous landmarks as well as some free time for shopping. Those who choose not to travel to London are invited to afternoon tea in Oxford.
Activities and excursions are run by our team of friendly mentors – whose main job is to maximise your enjoyment.

Experience traditional 'Formal Hall'
Formal Hall is a traditional weekly meal that takes place in every college. This is an opportunity for students to dress up, dine by candlelight in the magical surroundings of an Oxford University college’s dining hall.
As an Immerse student, you will experience formal dinner three times during your stay – once per week in Oxford, as well as in an Cambridge University college on the excursion day.
Formal hall is truly a memorable occasion, so remember to bring some smart clothes!

All participants will be allocated to a college a few weeks before arriving, based on their dates and subject choice.
If you would like to stay in the same location as a friend/sibling – please let us know and we will do our best to arrange this, where possible.
Males and females have separate accommodation in every college, and there is wi-fi available throughout.

Immerse™ Law Sample Modules

Module 1 - Law In Action
You will put theory into practice by developing your oratory skills ahead of a moot court experience. Developing substantiated, nuanced arguments are at the core of the legal profession. You will be put through your paces, exploring the structure of a legal trial in the UK. -
Module 2 - Human Rights Law
This session offers you an introduction to Human Rights Law, exploring the normative foundations of the human rights doctrine and ask if it should have constitutional validity above ordinary laws. You are introduced to the three generational framework that is prevalent in human rights discourse. -
Module 3 - Criminal Law
This session introduces you to Criminal Law. Students explore the basic concept of mens rea and actus reus, and how to evaluate cumulative criteria in statutory language and common law precedents. You will discuss the burden of proof for criminal convictions, and examine in detail the offence of murder, manslaughter, battery and assault. -
Module 4 - Mock Trial
At the end of the programme, participants will take part in a mock trial - providing an opportunity to put newfound knowledge and skills into action.
